Noussair Mazraoui has easily been Manchester United’s most versatile player this season and had some critical advice for Ruben Amorim.
This season, Noussair Mazraoui has been important for Manchester United, playing a total of 55 games for the club, which is one of the most within the squad.
The Moroccan has also had to perform in seven different positions for the club this season, including both wide centre-back roles, both full-back positions, at wingback on either side and even in the number 10 position.
This availability and consistency is something United have been crying out for this season, with many fans feeling he’s been one of the clubs most consistent players, only behind Bruno Fernandes and Amad.
While he may be a consistent performer, many United fans feel that with Ruben Amorim’s wing-back based attacking style, the presence going forward in those roles needs to be better.
Mazraoui sends Amorim position advice
In a recent interview with reporters, as per the Manchester Evening News, Mazraoui spoke about having to adapt to this style, and was brutally honest about his role within the squad and his best position.
The 26-year-old told reporters: “I have some qualities which fit perfectly with the position, like in the right centre-back, I really like to go forward with the ball.
“So in the build-up and break the lines, that’s something I can do good. So I’m comfortable on the ball.
“But it’s not like attacking as wing back. And wing back, a lot of times you come in a right wing position. For that, you really need like Amad one-v-one skill. That’s maybe not my biggest strength.
“So on both positions, you know some good points and some points which you feel like, ‘okay, maybe it’s better to play in another position’.”
Attacking wing backs needed at United
It is no secret that United are planning a massive squad overhaul this summer, with a win in the Europa League final meaning an even bigger budget to do so this summer.
One position fans have been crying out for strengthening in is the wing-back position, with players such as Diogo Dalot and Mazraoui not being natural in that position.
Considering the Moroccan’s recent comments, supporters will surely be hoping that Amorim and the ownership find someone of real quality to fill in that position, with Patrick Dorgu coming in on the left in January.
There has been a real focus on strengthening the attack this season, with United’s current -12 league goal difference being their worst in Premier League history.
Fans of the Red Devils will be hoping that by securing some real talent in these heavily relied-upon positions their team will stand a real chance of improving this next season.
