Matthijs de Ligt has revealed the three main questions Ruben Amorim is asking before choosing his Manchester United transfer targets this summer.
Manchester United are in desperate need of reinforcements this summer to bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad for next season.
But the club cannot simply just bring players in as they have done in the past. They must make sure that the new players truly elevate the team and suit Amorim’s plans.
Recruitment has been one of the biggest issues at Old Trafford over the last decade and the new INEOS-led team now need it to be as close to perfection as possible.
That will involve collaboration between the head coach and staff to find the players who are right for the project in terms of their involvement on and off the pitch.
Matheus Cunha appears to be one player who is on the verge of signing for the club while other targets will follow on the coming weeks.
De Ligt reveals what Amorim is asking about transfer targets
Matthijs de Ligt has been speaking highly about his Portuguese boss this week. The Dutch defender travelled on the post-season tour of Asia despite being injured.
“I like to see what the manager is doing right now. I’m not speaking into details but I have a feeling he’s really looking at the spots,” he told journalists whilst on tour.
The United defender also mentioned that Amorim is considering three main things before considering which players to sign this summer.
“I’m not speaking about players only but also about the whole culture and the way we are working at the club. I think he’s really into details,” added De Ligt.
“Before signing new players, he’s first looking at, ‘what is the culture, what needs to change, what can improve to become a better football club?’. I think from next season, we will see more of that.”
De Ligt likes brutal honesty from Amorim
Amorim has struggled in England so far but one thing hasn’t changed from his time in Portugal – a brutally honest approach.
He labelled this United side the “worst” in history and has pulled no punches when discussing his own performances since arriving at Old Trafford.
“I’m from Holland, so I like it,” De Ligt replied when asked about the honest approach from the 40-year-old.
“I can understand that for the media, they’re in shock because they’re like: ‘Normally, this doesn’t happen’ but I think you can also, as a media, be really happy that finally, someone speaks out what he thinks and speaks the truth instead of going around it.
“I really appreciate him in our conversations personally, how we speak. That gives me a feeling that I can trust him and he can trust me.”
