Mathys Tel sends clear message to Arsenal and Manchester United, he wants one guarantee before deciding transfer
Manchester United are among the clubs interested in Bayern Munich star Mathys Tel after he asked to leave the Bundesliga giants before the mid-season transfer deadline.
Manchester United’s attacking struggles have been a recurring problem this season, with the team having only scored 28 goals in 23 Premier League games.
Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee are struggling to be counted on as goalscorers, with just five netted between them in the league so far this season.
With the futures of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho uncertain before the January deadline, United are eyeing potential signings if either of those players were to depart.
Mathys Tel has quickly become a strong option for United after it was reported they would be interested in the Bayern Munich forward on loan if Rashford or Garnacho leaves the club.
Many top clubs have registered interest in the player since his desire to leave Bayern was communicated earlier this week.
Tel sends clear message to Arsenal and United
According to a report from MailSport, United are joined by the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Arsenal in their appreciation of Tel.
However, the report claimed that the 19-year-old is waiting to see whether United or Arsenal are going to formalise their interest before making a final decision on his future.
With those two clubs appearing to be his favoured options, Tel has also sent a clear message to those interested in him.
It is stated that the player’s biggest priority is to receive regular game-time at his new club after extremely inconsistent minutes at Bayern.
Tel has made 83 appearances for the German club since arriving in 2022 but the majority of those have come from the bench, with just 16 starts for the club in three years.
United suit Tel’s playing time demand
With that being considered, if United were going to approach the player this window, it seems like they are the perfect club for him.
If Garnacho or Rashford was to leave, Amorim would have a clear hole in his squad and Tel would be guaranteed regular game-time for the rest of the season.
Arsenal are also relatively light in forward areas due to the injuries of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus. But they still have the likes of Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri fighting for positions in the front three at the Emirates Stadium.
Meanwhile, the depth at United is very thin, with Zirkzee and Højlund challenging for the position up front and Bruno Fernandes, Amad and one of Garnacho or Rashford as options behind the striker.
Even then, Fernandes has also been used a lot in a deeper position in the midfield pivot under Amorim’s leadership. It makes sense why Tel is waiting to see United’s stance.
