Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes helped Portugal to beat Germany on Wednesday evening to progress to the Nations League final against Spain.
After there was so much speculation about his Manchester United future in recent weeks, Bruno Fernandes confirmed that he rejected an approach from Al-Hilal.
The United captain turned his attention back to the Nations League with Portugal. They reached the semi-final of the competition after beating Denmark in the quarter-finals back in March.
Fernandes started the game against Germany, and Portugal suffered a goal early into the second half after a controversial Florian Wirtz header.
Portugal hit back with two quick-fire goals soon afterwards, however, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the goal which put them into the final. Fernandes was the man who slipped Nuno Mendes through to set up the legendary forward.
Cunha and Zirkzee react to insane Fernandes display
Fernandes’ display in the game was described as ‘insane’ by fans. He completed 31 passes, created two chances and attempted six crosses. He also won seven of his nine duels during the clash.
The United captain reacted to the victory on Instagram with a post captioned, “PORTUGAL ❤️”.
Among those to like the post were Joshua Zirkzee and new Red Matheus Cunha, as well as the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount.
Wolves star and Portugal teammate José Sá commented, “Craqueeeeee 🔥🔥❤️”, while ex-Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie wrote: “Brunnnnno🔥🔥”.
Fernandes will certainly be looking forward to playing alongside Cunha at Old Trafford and has already sent the new signing a welcoming message.
Cunha set for World Cup qualifiers with Brazil
Cunha is also on international duty as he prepares for World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay over the coming days. He will then officially sign for United when he returns to England.
The 26-year-old will be hoping to receive some minutes on Friday in Brazil’s first clash with Ecuador. He has made 13 appearances for the national side but started just four of those games.
United fans will also be eager to see how their new signing plays in his first games since the announcement before the squad returns for pre-season.
Cunha will be in from the first day at Carrington and the Reds will be hoping to secure a couple more signings before that point too.
