Match preview: Manchester United Women vs Durham (FA Cup)
Manchester United Women face Durham Women on Sunday in the Women’s FA Cup Fifth round.
Manchester United have not lost in 10 games in domestic competitions, with the last match they lost being against Chelsea on 6 November 2022.
Marc Skinner’s side last match was a 2-1 away win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Spurs in the Women’s Super League, with Leah Galton and an own goal from Molly Bartrip being enough to claim the three points on the road for the Red Devils.
However, Ella Toone was sent off in the 80th minute due to handling a player’s neck on the floor. Fortunately, the red card was overturned, making Toone available for the fixture.
Durham currently sit in 8th position in the Women’s Championship after 13 games so far this season, making United firm favourites to progress through the tie.
These two sides have met twice before the match on Sunday with both teams having one win, the most recent win was for Durham in the second round of the Women’s League Cup.
As United went out of the competition on penalties, losing 3-1 after a 2-2 draw inside 120 minutes of play.
If United were to beat the northeast team, they would go through to the quarter-finals and will aim to win their first-ever piece of silverware for the Manchester United Women’s team.
Will the side progress to the final eight of the competition? Only time will tell. The fixture will kick off at midday on Sunday.
