Match officials: Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United (Premier League)
After FA Cup semi-final victory on Sunday, Manchester United are returning their attention to the Premier League.
Manchester United will go to North London on Friday with a chance to all but confirm their qualification to next season’s Champions League in a Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Lilywhites are in utter chaos at the moment, having just received a 6-1 humbling at the hands of Newcastle United last week. They have sacked interim head coach Cristian Stellini and brought former player Ryan Mason back into the fold.
United are in a jubilant mood after beating Brighton in the FA Cup semi-final. However, there are doubts about Bruno Fernandes’ availability for the fixture. He has been one of the club’s most important players this season and they are negatively impacted without him in the squad.
With plenty of narratives surrounding the match, refereeing decisions could also be a factor that decides the outcome of the game. Here are the confirmed match officials for United’s match against Tottenham:
Match Referee
Anthony Taylor will be the main man in charge of the match on Friday. He has been a familiar talking point among United fans all season long as he had previously reffed 4 games involving United this season, brandishing 10 yellow cards and 1 red card.
That 1 red card was, of course, the one received by Casemiro in a league match against Southampton. Due to Taylor’s decision to send Casemiro off, he was unavailable to play against Newcastle United, who fully took advantage of his absence and snatched a win.
Ten Hag will make sure his players are on their best behaviour during the match as this particular ref can alter results with one blow of a whistle.
Assistant Referees
Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn will be the assistant referees for the match. Both men had plenty of experience as assistant referees in the Premier League, Europa League, and Champions League this season. Both are certainly well-qualified to advise Taylor should he miss one or two calls.
Fourth Official
Thomas Bramall will be on the sidelines between Erik ten Hag and Ryan Mason on Friday. He was a maths teacher before transitioning to a full-time referee, so he would be very excellent at counting the amount substitutions made by both teams.
Video Assistant Referee
Simon Hooper will take charge of VAR for the game, with Steven Meredith his assistant.
