On Sunday afternoon, Manchester United visit Nottingham Forest in an effort to forget a dismal performance in Europe.

On Thursday, United’s first leg of their Europa League quarterfinal against Sevilla finished in a 2-2 draw, while Steve Cooper’s men fell to Aston Villa by the score of 2-0 last Saturday.

The Sevilla fixture was a game of two very different halves as United drew at Old Trafford after conceding two highly unfortunate goals late in the second half.

With Marcel Sabitzer filling in Marcus Rashford’s goalscoring shoes, the Red Devils had a commanding lead after the opening 45 minutes of the first-leg quarter-final encounter. However, Sevilla, using their Europa League strengths, came back in a fortuitous way with own goals from Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire, leaving the tie in doubt going into next week’s second leg.

A tragic second half for Erik ten Hag‘s group was summed up by season-ending injuries to Lisandro Martinez and potentially Raphael Varane. Still, the Red Devils must swiftly return to their domestic obligations as they currently sit fourth in the Premier League standings and are only behind third-place Newcastle United on goal differential.

Even though United seem to be in command of their Champions League fate after back-to-back victories with clean sheets over Brentford and Everton, the visitors’ most recent two away Premier League games against Liverpool and Newcastle ended in defeat.

As for the hosts, a fourth loss in five Premier League games has forced Forest, who are currently in 18th position, back into the relegation hunt, even though Everton is only holding onto 17th place due to a superior goal differential.

Match Referee

When Nottingham host United, Simon Hooper will be in control of the proceedings. The 40-year-old has officiated 22 Premier League games this season, including United’s 2-2 draw against Leeds United back in February.

Tierney isn’t hesitant to brand his cards, especially a yellow, as evidenced by the 203 yellow cards he has handed out in the 70 Premier League games he has overseen. He has never handed out a red card in his entire Premier League career.

Assistant Referees

The sidelines for the game will be supervised by Adrian Holmes and Simon Long.

Video Assistant Referee

Andy Madley will be in charge of VAR for the evening, with Nick Hopton his assistant.

Fourth Official

The fourth official in charge of marshalling Erik ten Hag and Steve Cooper on the sidelines is Jarred Gillett.
