Mason Mount’s seven-word message after derby draw gives hope to Manchester United fans vs Lyon

After yesterday’s Manchester derby stalemate, Mason Mount took to Instagram to give fans a seven-word message ahead of Rúben Amorim’s Lyon clash.

A weekend of Premier League football was rounded off with a classic Manchester derby on Sunday afternoon, where Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were hosted by Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils.

Despite being played on such a sunny, vibrant day, the derby was nothing more than cagey, stale, and vacuous. A 0-0 stalemate saw both teams walk away with a singular point, and not many talking points to be drawn from the affair.

One of the few things that Manchester United fans could get excited over following yesterday’s game was the fact that it saw two of their injury-prone stars re-enter the frame, which could be crucial as we enter the business end of the season.

Luke Shaw and Mason Mount have been two faces that United fans would have liked to see more of this season, but injuries have burdened the pair up until now.

Despite Shaw not playing, Sunday saw the two Englishmen feature in a Manchester United squad for the first time since December 1st 2024, where they played a combined 35 minutes in a 4-0 win vs Everton.

Mount’s motivational message to fans

Having played just shy of 20 minutes in Sunday’s cagey matchup, the ex-Chelsea midfielder was involved in a fair share of the game’s action.

Mount picked up a yellow card and could have had a potential late winner if his volley wasn’t blocked by some strong City defending.

Once the stalemate had played out, Mount took to Instagram to post the seven-word message “Plenty to take away. Big one Thursday” to his almost six million Instagram followers.

Having amassed just over 100 minutes in his four Europa League appearances this season, it is clear that Mount is excited for his sides quarter-final tie with Olympique Lyonnais on Thursday.

United heading to France for season decider

With Amorim’s reds playing the away fixture first, Thursday marks a very important task for The Red Devils as they attempt to salvage some success from what’s been a very lacklustre campaign.

Not only does Mount’s message make this clear, but the responses from attacking teammates Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee solidify how important this competition has become to the side.

The Europa League stands as the only realistic way for United to qualify for any European competition next season, as winning the competition would result in sought after automatic Champions League spot.

Finally, having both Shaw and Mount back in the frame, with Amad to hopefully follow suit soon, gives United some much-needed optimism as they aim to finish a poor season strongly by achieving some European silverware.
