Mason Mount has sent an important message to one of his Manchester United teammates ahead of the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United are on the verge of a defining night, with a Europa League win securing their return to the Champions League for the 2025/26 season.
Lifting the trophy would also serve as a rare highlight in a challenging period for the club, marking a third major honour in three consecutive years.
Nonetheless, their Premier League form remains a significant concern—one that new manager Ruben Amorim must work to improve moving forward.
Tottenham Hotspur, their opponents in the final, are facing similar difficulties. In fact, they are currently the only team below United in the Premier League table that isn’t in relegation trouble.
Despite underwhelming domestic seasons, both clubs have a chance to finish on a high by claiming European glory in Bilbao.
Mount sends important advice to United star
Mason Mount had his standout moment in United colours in the second-leg of the semi-final against Athletic Club after scoring twice off the bench at Old Trafford.
“It was a special, special night,” Mount told TNT Sports. “Even when I think back on it now, I was not doing much thinking during the game, it just happened.”
Amorim has not made it a secret how much he loves Mount and the English midfielder has been getting a lot of minutes under his belt in recent weeks.
The United boss could look to start Mount over Alejandro Garnacho against Spurs. If that ends up being the case, the Argentine could still end up having a crucial impact in Bilbao.
Mount himself has spoken about the importance of coming off the bench and making an impact against Athletic Club and he will be hoping his teammate can do the same thing in the final.
“As a sub coming on, you want to have an impact, create chances and getting that first goal settled it down,” Mount explained further.
“I waited a long time to get a goal here [at Old Trafford], that occasion to score, the crowd reaction and the occasion it was, it was amazing.”
Garnacho could change the game vs Spurs
It does feel like a slightly safer option to start Mount against Spurs as he will offer much-needed energy to battle against a depleted Spurs midfield.
Garnacho’s pace off the bench also seems like it could end up being very useful in the second half when the game is beginning to be stretched.
Finals are usually very cagey to begin with and the 20-year-old’s playstyle might not be too useful in those stages of the game. Instead, the “exciting” star could change the match with fresh legs off the bench.
That is how Garnacho impressed so much when he first broke into the United first-team and he hasn’t been able to do it as much since he’s had to start so many games.
But with options available, it looks like it could be something that Amorim tries on Wednesday night.
