Mason Mount says Senne Lammens did something “so important” vs Sunderland, it’s bad news for Altay Bayındır

Mason Mount has praised one of his Manchester United teammates for helping the club complete something “really important” during the win over Sunderland.

Manchester United rounded off their most recent block of fixtures with a fantastic 2-0 home win against Sunderland at Old Trafford.

First-half goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Šeško secured all three points for United on Saturday afternoon, very much setting the mood around the club on a season-high as the Premier League heads into the October international break.

Just as importantly as the goals, Senne Lammens also finally made his debut for the Reds after signing on transfer deadline day last summer, and the Belgian was fantastic as he claimed his crosses, made a couple of comfortable saves, and kept a clean sheet.

While the football and results under Amorim have been tough so far this season, the Sunderland win has helped reset the tone and mood around the team as they recuperate ahead of the two-week break.

Mount praises “so important” Lammens

Speaking with club media after the Sunderland result, United forward Mount was candid about the club’s current mood and the positive impact the Sunderland win, including the team’s performance, will have on the side.

“I know it had been difficult recently, but a really important win today, especially at home – I feel like we’ve been very solid,” Mount explained.

“When we start sharply at home, there’s definitely a good chance that we can win the game. Getting that first goal and then getting another goal in the first half really helped us going forward.”

Mount also took a second to praise the defensive line, including debutant Lammens, for securing the club’s first clean sheet of the season, which he feels was “so important” for the Reds.

“I think it’s so important to get the clean sheet as well, so all-round a good day today,” he continued. “There was a lot of pressure on today, so for us to step up mentally, to really show character, was so important.

“We look forward now, we keep moving forward and stay together as a team.”

Lammens set to start a run of games after debut

Many were perplexed to see that, despite Lammens’ signing at the beginning of September, he wasn’t played for any of the Manchester City, Chelsea, or Brentford games. After the Sunderland tie, Amorim confirmed this was due to acclimatisation.

However, following the Belgian’s brilliant debut, he is reportedly now set to be given a run of games in goal, which spells bad news for Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayındır, who had been playing in André Onana’s absence.

United’s immediate fixture after the international break is a tough trip away from home against Liverpool at Anfield – a ground they have not won at in the Premier League since 2016.

Following this, fixtures against Brighton (H), Nottingham Forest (A), and Tottenham Hotspur (A), which will very much put the 23-year-old to the test against some of the Premier League’s most physical sides.
