Sources have confirmed to UtdDistrict that Rúben Amorim still feels strongly about Mason Mount’s future despite his latest Manchester United injury.

In July 2023, Manchester United announced a deal with Chelsea to sign English midfielder Mason Mount.

The move, approved by then-manager Erik ten Hag, brought Mount to Old Trafford for an initial fee of £55 million, with add-ons potentially raising the total to £60 million.

Eighteen months later, Mount’s time at United has been plagued by injuries. He has managed only 32 appearances, contributing one goal and one assist, and has missed 47 of the 79 games the team have played since his arrival.

Despite Rúben Amorim’s praise for the 25-year-old, Mount has now suffered yet another injury setback.

What Amorim thinks about Mount after his new injury

Mount was withdrawn after just 13 minutes against Manchester City last weekend, with subsequent reports explaining he had suffered a hamstring problem due to a hyperextended leg, with his tendon also affected.

However, UtdDistrict have been informed that despite Mount’s recent injury setback, Amorim continues to be a big fan of the 25-year-old and wants to keep him.

Mount has always done well in training, and in the opening month of the 39-year-old’s reign at the club, the English midfielder has been very receptive to his new ideas.

Amorim is willing to keep Mount at the club beyond this season and hopes the player can put his injury issues behind him. However, it remains unclear if the club’s leadership team would want to cash in on the player instead.

“Mason Mount… I have to tell you I love that kid,” Amorim said to the press last month.

“You can look in his eyes that he wants this so bad. And this is the most important thing for me.

“I know he was suffering from injuries, he was not on the pitch, but now he’s trying to stay fit and we hope he can continue to be fit, to show all the talent that he’s shown, for example, in Chelsea.”

United have big fears over Mount’s latest injury

According to talkSPORT, United now have fears that Mount may not be available again until March 2025 after his early substitution against Manchester City.

The report states that Mount is now set for “another lengthy injury absence” just a few weeks after recovering from a previous injury, making this the third he has suffered this season.

Mount missed three months with a calf problem during his debut campaign, among other minor absences, and has made just 12 appearances so far this season, having undergone multiple problems.

“Words can’t portray how devastated I’m feeling right now,” he wrote in a recent Instagram post. “You could probably see the look on my face when it happened. I knew what it meant.”

Speaking last week on the injury himself, Amorim confirmed that Mount would be out for “several weeks.”

He continued: “I don’t know the exact date, but it’s going to be for long. And that’s it, it’s part of football, and you continue.”
