Mason Mount has explained the one Manchester United star who is his “favourite ever” Old Trafford player that he used to copy as a child.

Mason Mount‘s first season at Manchester United has not quite gone according to plan – A series of injuries kept him from having much of an impact on Erik ten Hag‘s squad.

Mount played just 20 times during his debut campaign at Old Trafford after his £55 million move from Premier League rivals Chelsea, starting just seven of those games.

Mount was handed the converted No. 7 shirt upon his arrival at the club when many thought it might be gifted to Alejandro Garnacho, who instead took the No. 17 after it had been vacated by Fred last summer.

However, many have high hopes for Mount next season onwards as the 25-year-old has proven his abilities both for Chelsea and England previously. Mount is currently on holiday following his return from injury and is due back at Carrington for pre-season training in early July.

Recently, Mount sat down to speak with the club and answer questions from fans, one of whom asked who his all-time favourite Manchester United player is—and his answer was no surprise.

I’d go Becks [David Beckham],” he told club media. “I remember watching him when I was growing up, I used to take [free kicks].

I still do, but I used to take a lot of free kicks when I was younger, and I used to copy Becks, obviously (Cristiano) Ronaldo as well, and try and replicate what they did.

“I remember watching the England goal, was it (against) Greece? Yeah, that was at Old Trafford wasn’t it? Yeah, I remember watching that, so yeah, Becks.”

Speaking in April, Ten Hag explained that he is pleased that the club signed Mount, explaining that he feels the English midfielder will become an important player for United.

“He wanted to make the step, and we were, and we are, very pleased he is a Man United player because he has great abilities,” Ten Hag said when asked about Mount’s transfer.

“I am sure he will contribute and he will become a big player for Man United.”
