Marcus Rashford’s main obstacle in joining Barcelona has been explained amid claims he is willing to take a 40% wage cut to secure the move.
Marcus Rashford is among five Manchester United players expected to depart the club this summer, with new manager Rúben Amorim having decided he no longer fits into his plans.
As United’s first-team squad begins to return to Carrington for pre-season, with Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount among those back, most players are expected to report this week or early next.
However, Rashford, along with Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho, has been instructed to stay away from first-team training as they look for moves away from Old Trafford. Rashford, though, has continued training individually at Carrington.
Despite scoring Amorim’s first goal in charge and netting twice more against Everton, Rashford’s relationship with the head coach quickly soured, with the Portuguese boss reportedly unimpressed by his effort in training.
After a January loan to Aston Villa, where he registered four goals and six assists in 17 appearances, Rashford is now targeting a summer move to Barcelona.
Rashford’s main Barcelona obstacle is not his wages
According to recent reports, Barcelona are willing to go “all in” on signing the winger this summer, with Hansi Flick approving the move and Rashford now their best option after missing out on Nico Williams and Luis Diaz.
However, according to Spanish journalist Javi Miguel, convincing the sporting director, Deco, remains an obstacle.
“Deco remains the main obstacle in the Rashford operation,” Miguel posted on X.
“There are still significant discrepancies in the Sporting Committee regarding the attacking reinforcement. The priority now is on departures to free up salary space.
Rashford doing everything he can to join Barcelona
Amid Rashford’s desire to join Barcelona, the player is reportedly doing everything he can to secure the move to La Liga.

Various reports have claimed that the player is willing to reduce his current wage package by up to 40% to facilitate the move amid Barcelona’s ever-precarious financial situation.
In the meantime, Rashford has been working on his pre-season fitness at Carrington, although he continues to train with separate coaches and away from Amorim’s first-team group.
Rashford has previously highlighted the importance of a good pre-season, so he will no doubt continue to work on his fitness in the coming weeks as he hopes to finalise the deal and hit the ground running in Barcelona.
