Marcus Rashford reveals ‘key factor’ in Manchester United exit after first Barcelona interview

Marcus Rashford has officially joined Barcelona on a season-long loan from Manchester United and the forward has also conducted his first interview.

Having been sidelined at Manchester United following the arrival of Ruben Amorim, Marcus Rashford has finally secured his long-desired move to Barcelona.

The England international endured a difficult couple of seasons at Old Trafford, which prompted a loan move to Premier League rivals Aston Villa. There, he managed to rediscover some of his form.

Although Villa chose not to make the deal permanent, it became evident that Rashford had no future at United, especially after Matheus Cunha was handed his number 10 shirt.

At 27, Rashford was vocal about his preference to join Barcelona, and after weeks of negotiations, the deal has now been completed.

The move sees Rashford join the Spanish giants on loan, with an option to make the transfer permanent next summer for a reported fee of £30 million.

Rashford reacts to Barcelona move

After the transfer was officially announced on Wednesday evening, Rashford conducted his first interview with Barcelona’s media team.

“Very excited,” he smiled. “I think it’s a club where people’s dreams come true. They win big prizes and what the club stands for really means a lot to me as well.

“So it feels like I’m at home and this is a big factor in my choice to come here because for me it’s a family club and people are comfortable here and it’s a good place for good players to showcase their skills.”

Speaking further on his style, Rashford added: “I always try to make decisive actions, fast, dynamic plays, and I always like good football.

“I’ve always been a fan of watching Barcelona play from a young age, like most football fans. So yeah, it’s going to be a joy for me to play here and I’m going to enjoy every minute of it.”

Rashford reveals Flick’s role in United transfer

Rashford was also asked about his new manager, Hansi Flick, and the United loanee revealed that the German was a ‘key factor’ behind this transfer move.

“Definitely a lot,” he responded when asked how much he’s looking forward to working with Flick. “Another key factor of the reason I’m here, the conversations that I had with him was very positive.”

The 27-year-old also made sure to praise the work Flick did with Barcelona last season, after they won the La Liga and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

“And yeah, what he did last season was a terrific season but not just last year, I think in his career he’s proved he’s one of the top coache,” continued Rashford.

“To lead such a young team to a very successful season and then come back to pre-season and still want to do more, it shows me everything I thought I knew about the club but now to be here it’s everything that I wished and thought.

“So yeah, like I said, eager to get going and keep learning the Barcelona way as I go and be ready for the games.”
