Why Marcus Rashford isn’t in Manchester United’s squad vs Tottenham as team confirmed
Marcus Rashford has not been named in Manchester United’s squad that is travelling to North London to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
Rúben Amorim is gearing up for his first domestic knockout match as Manchester United manager, with the Reds set to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening.
United head into the tie riding high after a stunning 2-1 comeback win over Manchester City, thanks to Amad Diallo’s late-game heroics at the Etihad.

While Amorim’s focus remains firmly on the Premier League and Europa League campaigns, the trip to North London offers a chance to maintain momentum against an inconsistent Spurs side led by Ange Postecoglou.
Tottenham, however, will be buoyed by their emphatic 5-0 victory over Southampton in preparation for this clash.
Why Rashford is not in the travelling squad
Amorim has named his 22-man squad that is travelling to London to face Tottenham on Thursday evening, and Marcus Rashford has been left out of the team.
Alejandro Garnacho and Jonny Evans have both been reinstated after missing the win over Manchester City on the weekend, but this is the second game in a row where Rashford has not been selected.
This comes after Rashford dropped a bombshell interview confirming he feels it’s best that he leaves United for pastures new in the coming months, although it’s more likely that his absence is due to illness.
On Monday, Rashford was sent home early by club doctors after he was deemed ill, and although Amorim confirmed on Wednesday morning that he would be part of training after the squad was given a day off, he may not have been up to scratch compared to the others.
“What I want is to take the best of Marcus Rashford and the other players,” Amorim said when asked about the forward’s future at United. “Don’t talk about future – talk about present.
“I want the best, I want to win and help the team be better. We are better with Marcus Rashford and that’s simple. We have to push him to the level he’s shown in the past.
“This kind of club needs big talent. He’s a big talent so you just need to perform at the highest level. That is my focus. I just want to help Marcus.”
