Marcus Rashford told he has an ‘issue’ as his best Manchester United transfer destination explained
Marcus Rashford has been told he has an “issue” as his best destination is revealed amid a pending exit from Manchester United in January.
Marcus Rashford is set to leave Manchester United in 2025 after a headline-making interview revealed the 27-year-old’s desire to pursue a new chapter in his career.
Once a focal point in United’s attack, Rashford’s form has declined since his remarkable 30-goal season under Erik ten Hag in 2022/23. Under Rúben Amorim, he has struggled for minutes, with Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes now favoured in key attacking roles.
Rashford’s connection to Manchester United spans nearly 20 years, beginning with his spectacular debut as an 18-year-old. He announced himself with two goals against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, followed by another brace against Arsenal in his Premier League debut.
Reports suggest United are prepared to accept bids in the region of £40 million, making Rashford’s departure all but certain as he looks to begin a new phase of his footballing journey.
Rashford informed of “issue” at United
Speaking to NewBettingSites, former Premier League striker and regular BBC football pundit Chris Sutton has explained that he believes Rashford has a problem at United due to being dropped by both Ten Hag and Amorim
“Marcus Rashford does have an issue. No one doubts that a fit and motivated Rashford is able to perform to a really high level and score loads of goals – he’s already proven he’s capable of that,” Sutton said. “But the last two Manchester United managers have questioned his attitude.
“When Erik ten Hag arrived with a clean slate and wanted to do well, there was an issue with Rashford. And now we’re seeing the same thing with Rúben Amorim. Managers want to go in and hit the ground running so it’s not the case of there being an agenda against Rashford, it’s about setting standards at the club.
“For whatever reason, Amorim clearly doesn’t see Rashford performing at the required level or meeting those standards. That means if you’re a top team and looking at what has happened at United, would you take a chance and pay big money for a player who’s caused problems for two managers in a row? I think that’s the issue clubs are going to have looking at Rashford.
“I don’t doubt his ability, there aren’t many people out there that do, but there are certainly question marks around his attitude and application. It’s not just about the ability for managers, it’s about the person and the character and they don’t want a disruptor in the dressing room.
“I’m not saying that’s what Rashford is, but the last two managers have discarded a really talented player.”
Rashford’s ideal transfer destination explained
Rashford has been linked to several clubs since his interview last month, and Sutton has explained he feels it would be best if he engineered a move to Ligue 1 side Paris St. Germain.
“I think Marcus Rashford will leave in this January transfer window, but who’s going to take him?
“I can see him going to a club like Paris Saint-Germain. A change of environment would be a good option for Rashford, to escape the scrutiny and build his confidence back up. He clearly doesn’t feel loved at Manchester United.
“I’m glad he’s not looking to move over to Saudi Arabia because I think he can do that when he’s 35, he’s still got a big European club in him. He’s got to do the hard yards and prove himself again, it’s as simple as that.”
Reports from this week have stated that Rashford is being considered by German outfit Borussia Dortmund, although they are one of a number of clubs who are looking at the 27-year-old.
Dortmund and United engaged in a similar deal last year that saw Jadon Sancho head to Dortmund in January 2024 on a six-month loan before he moved on to Chelsea in the summer.
