Marcus Rashford reveals Manchester United “dream” as Joshua Zirkzee starts training
Marcus Rashford has detailed his new dream for Manchester United as Joshua Zirkzee returns to full training with his new club.
Marcus Rashford‘s journey with Manchester United began at a very young age when he joined the club’s youth academy at the age of seven. His early promise was evident, and his development through the ranks was marked by his impressive skills and goal-scoring ability across all academy levels.
His breakthrough into the first team came under dramatic circumstances on February 25, 2016, when he was called up to play in a Europa League match against FC Midtjylland due to an injury crisis. Rashford seised the opportunity spectacularly, scoring twice and instantly becoming a fan favourite. Just a few days later, he made his Premier League debut against Arsenal and again scored twice, solidifying his place in the team.

Following his explosive debut, Rashford quickly established himself as a key player for Manchester United. His pace, technical ability, and knack for scoring crucial goals made him a valuable asset for the team. Over the next few seasons, Rashford continued to develop under different managers, including Louis van Gaal, José Mourinho, and Ole Gunnar Solskjær.
He became known for his versatility, able to play across the front line, although he primarily featured as a winger or forward. His performances in big matches, including memorable goals against top rivals, further endeared him to the United faithful.
During Erik ten Hag’s first campaign, Rashford was truly the talisman at Old Trafford, becoming the first player to score 30 goals in a single campaign since Robin van Persie during the 2012/13 season. However, during the Dutch manager’s second campaign, Rashford’s performance took a dive.
However, speaking to club media, Rashford seems recharged and ready, having taken a full part in United’s pre-season tour ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and explained that he still dreams of winning the biggest trophies at United.
When asked what it feels like to live his dream of being a United player after growing up as a boyhood fan, Rashford honestly answered that his dreams are now more geared toward winning trophies.
“I think as you get older, your dreams change as well,” he explained.
“So, you know, in the beginning, it was just about playing for Man United. And when you get there, it’s about winning. So I still have, you know, dreams of winning the big trophies, the Premier League and Champions League with Man United. So, you know, hopefully we can get that done.”
Meanwhile, new signing Joshua Zirkzee has returned to Carrington for the first time since signing for the Old Trafford club in a £36 million deal from Bologna. He arrived to be greeted by first-team coach Steve McClaren and has started work to build his fitness ahead of the new season.
The club confirmed that he would not travel to America to play against either Real Betis or Liverpool but that he may make his debut against Manchester City in the 2024 Community Shield on Saturday, 10 August.
Zirkzee has been compared to Anthony Martial, Rashford’s trusted partner during his most prolific seasons. He could very much be a catalyst for Rashford’s performances.
