Marcus Rashford has reportedly distanced himself with a recent message from Jadon Sancho as the Chelsea star is blasted for his ‘toxic’ Instagram comment.

Marcus Rashford embarked on a six-month loan move to Aston Villa last month and made his debut over the weekend in an FA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur.

Once the focal point of Manchester United’s attack, Rashford enjoyed a prolific 30-goal season under Erik ten Hag in 2022/23. However, his form has since declined, and he struggled for minutes under Rúben Amorim.

With Amad and Bruno Fernandes now key figures, Rashford had not featured for over six weeks before sealing his move to Villa Park.

A product of United’s academy, he made an unforgettable debut at 18, scoring twice against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League before adding another brace against Arsenal in the Premier League.

Since then, he has played over 420 times for United, scoring 138 goals and providing 63 assists, winning five major trophies along the way.

Rashford distances himself from Sancho

United loanee Jadon Sancho, currently at Chelsea, reacted to Rashford’s debut for Villa by commenting the word “freedom” under the player’s first instagram post since the game, which caused an uproar among United fans.

Although those such as Rio Ferdinand believe there is an element of truth to what Sancho is implying, the Daily Mail have since clarified how Rashford feels about his colleague’s actions.

According to the report, sources close to Rashford have indicated he does not appreciate being dragged into Sancho’s tensions with United following the Chelsea player’s comment on Instagram.

The 27-year-old is said to be keen to stay on good terms with both the club and United supporters.

Sancho blasted for “toxic” action

Sancho’s relationship with United is very far beyond breaking point, and he is set to sign for Chelsea permanently at the end of the season as there is a mandatory purchase clause for £25 million in his current loan deal.

Although most consider Sancho a permanent Chelsea player already, he is still technically under contract with Manchester United, and former goalkeeper Ben Foster was in disbelief when he saw the Instagram comment.

“What is he doing?” the ex-United player said on his podcast. “That’s ridiculous because he is still actually employed by Manchester United, so is Marcus Rashford.

“It just reeks of toxicity at United. It reeks of an unhappy place to be, that everybody’s buzzing for someone to get out [of the club].”
