Marcus Rashford may miss the rest of the season due to injury as Aston Villa boss Unai Emery issues an update on the Manchester United loanee.
Manchester United sent Marcus Rashford out on loan for the remainder of the season after the winger fell out with Rúben Amorim.
The 40-year-old head coach claimed that the player was not working as hard as others in training, with Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes, and Amad favoured in the wide positions.
Rashford joined Aston Villa for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign, where he has since made 17 appearances, scoring four times and providing six assists.
Villa have the option to make his move to Birmingham permanent in the summer for £40 million, but manager Unai Emery has been firm that his club will not think about that until the season is over.
Emery issues Rashford injury latest
While Rashford has gained himself a starting place at Villa, he was absent from the fixture that saw the Villains knocked out of the FA Cup at the semi-final stage, with Crystal Palace running riot at Wembley Stadium.
Eberechi Eze kicked off proceedings with a stunning goal from outside the area before Jean-Philippe Mateta missed from the spot. However, two second-half strikes from Ismaïla Sarr secured a historic 3-0 win for Oliver Glasner’s team.
With Rashford absent, Emery confirmed that he had suffered a hamstring injury in training and will miss a few weeks, and with the season now in its final four weeks, there is a chance Rashford may miss the season.
Speaking to the media, Emery said: “He’s injured. He got injured this week, and yesterday we did a test – it is his hamstring. We are going to try to test him each match, but he’s injured and probably won’t be available for some weeks.”
What is next for Rashford?
There is no guarantee that Villa will keep Rashford beyond this summer, and should the £40 million buy option not be triggered, the 27-year-old would then return to the club. Speaking on Friday, Amorim confirmed that no final decision on Rashford’s future will be taken until after the end of the season.
“All the players that are on loan, they will return, and then the club will decide what to do at the end of the season,” the head coach told the press.

Aside from Villa, it has been widely reported that the United forward has a preference to join La Liga side Barcelona this summer.
However, Ian Wright has suggested that Rashford should consider securing a move to Newcastle amid the pending departure of Alexander Isak.
“It’s the kind of signing Newcastle should be making,” Wright said on his Ringer FC podcast. “That would be amazing. That would be dangerous.
“Rashford at Newcastle? Yeah. That would be really good. I really like that for Rashford. Rashford at Newcastle can be dangerous.”
