Manchester United’s true plan for Kobbie Mainoo revealed after 20yo midfielder ‘agrees’ to one thing

Manchester United’s plan for Kobbie Mainoo has been revealed, after the young midfielder’s request for a loan move was denied.

The transfer window has now slammed shut in the Premier League, and Manchester United finished the window with a total of four first-team additions.

Ruben Amorim’s side brought in a new-look front three, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko totalling a fee over £200million.

The final acquisition for the Reds was goalkeeper Senne Lammens. Despite many rumours, United didn’t make any changes to their midfield department in the end.

Due to a lack of minutes in the league so far, Kobbie Mainoo requested a loan move for the 2025/26 campaign, but that request was denied. The Reds’ plan for their young midfielder has been revealed.

United’s plan for Mainoo

TEAMtalk have reported, via United In Focus, that United have locked in a ‘plan’ for their 20-year-old academy product, after refusing to let him leave on loan this summer.

The publication states that Amorim’s side ‘remain confident’ that Mainoo will be given chance to play for the club throughout the campaign.

Additionally, Mainoo has agreed to show his commitment to the club by knuckling down and working hard in order to earn a spot in the starting XI.

The Stockport-born star will be competing with his captain, Bruno Fernandes, for a spot in Amorim’s double pivot.

Are Mainoo minutes a possibility?

Although it has been stated that minutes will come Mainoo’s way throughout the campaign, it is still uncertain as to when and where these chances will come.

It is pretty well known that Fernandes is almost always available for his side and rarely misses out on the starting XI, so for Mainoo to play, it would either mean Fernandes plays further forward or misses out on a starting spot.

Now that the Reds have crashed out of the Carabao Cup, the only opportunities that Mainoo will get will either be in the FA Cup or in the league, where there is less opportunity to rotate.

As the 2026 World Cup takes place next summer, United’s young midfielder will be desperate to show England boss Thomas Tuchel what he is capable of. It will be interesting to see how United’s plan plays out.
