Manchester United’s “shining light” tipped to get iconic no.10 shirt as Marcus Rashford exit verdict given

Manchester United could end up selling Marcus Rashford in the summer transfer window and that would mean the iconic no.10 shirt would be up for grabs.

Marcus Rashford joined Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United during the January transfer window after struggling for regular minutes under Ruben Amorim.

Since his move, the 27-year-old has made just four starts but has impressed with his impact, registering four assists — all for fellow loanee Marco Asensio.

His standout performances have attracted the attention of England’s new head coach, Thomas Tuchel, resulting in a call-up to the national squad.

Rashford earned his first England cap since March 2024 in a 2-0 win over Albania on Friday evening in their 2026 World Cup qualifier.

Rashford will not get second chance under Amorim

Despite his solid form for Villa since arriving on loan, it has been suggested that Amorim does not have Rashford in his plans for next season.

The Daily Star have reported that the the United boss will not give Rashford a life-line at Old Trafford next season and is planning to sell him permanently in the summer.

It was claimed that the Reds are trying to strike a deal with Villa for the winger. Reports elsewhere suggest that Midlands team have a £40 million buy option.

United will be planning to strengthen their frontline, with a no.10 and striker earmarked as priority signings for Amorim’s squad.

Amad tipped to get United no.10 shirt

Of course, with Rashford likely leaving in the summer, one of the club’s most iconic shirts will be available. Rashford has wore the shirt number since 2018.

Before that, the iconic number was donned by the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney and David Beckham.

United are set to make several new signings in the summer but the no.10 shirt could be destined for a player already at Old Trafford.

The Manchester Evening News have tipped Amad to receive the upgrade to take over from Rashford’s number next season, with the Ivorian currently wearing the no.16.

They claimed that Amad has been a “shining light” this season for the Reds and the fact that he is only 22 years old and can still improve is one reason why he should get the shirt.
