Manchester United are still struggling to offload one of their key sales this summer despite the relationship being completely broken.
Manchester United have loaned out 11 first-team and Academy players so far this summer, with Rúben Amorim aiming to give several squad players the chance to play regular senior football.
Following a season where United finished 15th in the Premier League and were beaten in the Europa League final, a large squad is no longer necessary. With no European competition in 2025/26, younger players will have fewer chances to feature.
Despite being highly rated within the club, talents such as Toby Collyer, Jack Moorhouse, and Radek Vitek have been sent on loan to English sides to gain crucial first-team experience.
Further departures are expected too, with up to four more Academy players set for loan moves before the transfer window closes. Beyond these Academy players, Amorim is also hoping that a number of his current first-team players are sold this month.
Sancho refusing to accept offers despite broken relationship
Jadon Sancho is a name many will agree has been affiliated with United for far too long. After falling out with Erik ten Hag in 2023, he was sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund for six months in January 2024, then to Chelsea for the 2024/25 campaign, before returning.
Chelsea had the obligation to sign Sancho for £25 million this summer, but after they failed to agree personal terms, the London club paid a £5 million penalty to void the agreement. Despite Roma bidding £20 million for the player, he has so far refused to leave United this summer.
“For Sancho, the message from United remains the same. No chance to retire in the squad,” transfer expert Fabrizio Romano explained. “Sancho doesn’t even want to retire in the squad, so the relationship remains completely broken between Man Utd and Sancho.
“On the Roma deal, for Man Utd, it’s very clear. Man Utd would take the offer from Roma. It’s already clear since more than one week ago. £20 million, loan with obligation for United is okay. United would take that money and let the player go.
“It’s the player who said no on Monday, and at the moment, the player is still not giving any different indication about that. If Sancho decides to reopen talks with Roma, we will be here to let you know in the next days. As of today, Sancho is still not accepting, not opening doors to Roma move.
“So, let’s see what’s going to happen there, but Sancho remains one of the players who have to leave Manchester United in these final days of the summer transfer window, because the relationship with Manchester United,is completely broken.”
Sancho is running out of transfer options
Once hailed as one of football’s brightest prospects, Sancho’s £73 million move to United in 2021 has collapsed into a disaster. The reasons are many, but one thing is clear: he needs regular football to revive his career.
Chelsea, Juventus, Roma, and others have shown interest, yet no move has materialised. With just 10 days left before most major European windows close, his options are narrowing fast.
Romano reports Sancho will not consider Turkey until September, but that may soon be his only route back to the pitch.
Besiktas have made strong advances in recent days, while Roma remain determined to convince the 25-year-old before the Italian deadline.
