Ruben Amorim and Marcus Rashford are set for showdown talks should the England international returns to Manchester United this summer following his expulsion from the squad last year.
Marcus Rashford looks likely to be involved in talks with boss Ruben Amorim to clear the air this summer if he returns to Manchester United.
Rashford is currently on loan at Aston Villa, after he was axed from the first-team squad at Old Trafford under Amorim in December.
The 27-year-old’s deal with Villa runs out at the end of June and it remains to be seen whether he’s part of their future plans.
Villa have the option to buy Rashford for £40 million, but if they reject him, then the ex-United wonderkid will be back at the club with his future still uncertain.
Rashford heading Stateside
As reported by The Daily Star, if Rashford does return to the Red Devils then he will be expected to join the squad on their pre-season tour of the United States and have “showdown talks” with Amorim.
A similar situation occurred with Jadon Sancho, who appeared on the club’s tour last year, despite his prior disagreement with Erik ten Hag. He later moved to Chelsea on loan.
The report added that the bosses at the club are keen to see Amorim resolve his differences with the Manchester-born attacker before assessing the next steps.
Amorim suggested that Rashford had a poor attitude in training, with the former academy prospect having previously revealed he wanted to leave United to seek a new challenge elsewhere.
He has certainly been enjoying his time at Villa Park too. While he hasn’t racked up incredible numbers, he has been an integral part of their squad, who are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Amorim refusing to comment
Amorim has refused to comment on Rashford when asked about him as of late, insisting he is only focused on players he has in his squad.
The United boss has previously suggested Rashford could be a top talent if his mentality changes, saying:” I know Rashford really well, and everybody knows the talent that he has.
He’s a top player, if he wants to be. So I’m not surprised. It’s a good thing we see our players doing well on loan in a different context.”
It remains to be seen then whether Rashford will be a part of United’s plans next summer, with no plan for the England attacker confirmed as of yet.
