Manchester United’s new six-man leadership team revealed as Ruben Amorim snubs “brilliant” star

Manchester United have a new six-man leadership team in place for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign as Ruben Amorim prepares for an important season.

Manchester United have kicked off their pre-season in impressive fashion this summer, playing three matches so far, with a standout victory over Bournemouth in their most recent outing.

The Reds are working hard to move on from a disappointing 2024/25 season, which saw them finish a dismal 15th in the Premier League.

Ruben Amorim took charge in November last year, but he was unable to make an immediate impact at Old Trafford and is now looking ahead to the new season.

The United boss is trying to improve the culture at the club over the summer and a new leadership team has been named as part of that.

United’s new leadership team revealed

While everyone knows that Bruno Fernandes is the club captain, United are one of many teams who have started to decide to name official leadership teams to provide additional support.

Amorim has confirmed that his new group of leaders consists of Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, Tom Heaton, Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui.

“We have a leadership group now,” Amorim told reporters this week. “It’s not just Bruno. It’s not just Harry. It’s six guys now. They are responsible for the group.

“There are some things that in the last year I had to deal with. I said to them in this year, you deal with that. Small issues are with you guys. You are responsible. All these small changes, I think it’s helping the group.

“We have Bruno, we have Licha (Martinez), we have Harry, we have Diogo (Dalot), we have Tom (Heaton) and we have Nous (Mazraoui). So it’s not just the oldest one.

“Nous is in the group because he’s a character that I like. And I try to understand the dynamic of the group. Try to reach every space. They are the guys that are responsible to keep everyone in line.”

Amorim snubs Casemiro in United leadership team

Casemiro is seemingly not involved in that leadership team despite being included in prior ones under the management of Erik ten Hag.

That is probably because the Brazilian is likely to leave the club next summer when he contract at Old Trafford runs out. Luke Shaw has also not been named in that group.

Casemiro was initially in the background when Amorim took over but worked hard to get back into the team and was a “brilliant” player in the back-end of last term.

Even if he’s not in the official leadership team, Casemiro will use his experience to help the squad over the next year.
