Manchester United have decided to sack Erik ten Hag as first-team manager after a string of poor results to start the 2024/25 campaign.

Manchester United lost against West Ham on Sunday afternoon and the club have decided to part ways with Erik ten Hag despite previously showing him backing.

Ten Hag’s side are 14th in the Premier League and 21st in the new-look Europa League table and things needed to change.

INEOS’ leadership team led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe have confirmed the decision to sack the 54-year-old manager, with a full club statement being released on Monday morning.

It was explained that assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over on an interim basis.

“Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager,” the club statement began.

“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.

“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”

This is a developing story.
