Matheus Cunha is expected to have a major impact if his Manchester United transfer goes through, as he would become Rúben Amorim’s new attacking talisman.
Manchester United are closing in on signing Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha as Rúben Amorim’s first summer signing.
The 25-year-old Brazilian has spent two and a half seasons in the Premier League with the West Midlands club, but is set to start a new chapter in Manchester this summer.
As per multiple reports, United are in negotiations with Wolves to pay the player’s £62.5 million release clause as a series of instalments instead of in one transfer.
Amorim is keen to install the player as the left-sided forward in his front three, with Amad set to return as the first-choice player on the right flank and either Rasmus Højlund or potentially a new striker through the middle.
Cunha adds three important traits to United
With Cunha’s transfer hopefully wrapped up in the next week or so, former United defender Paul Parker has been discussing what the player would bring to Old Trafford.
Parker noted that the Brazilian’s athleticism, demands for the ball at his feet, and passion for winning are all traits that will add to United’s front line, of which Amad is the club’s best player right now.
“If Cunha signs for Manchester United, he’s gonna be an upgrade,” Parker said. “A 100 percent upgrade on what they have at the moment. Doesn’t mean he’s gonna be the best and perfect, but he’ll be better than what they’ve got at the moment.”
“He’s not a centre-forward. He’s athletic, he’s a runner, he’s very very demanding. You can see that he hates to lose. He’s definitely an upgrade on what Man Utd have at the moment, as a forward player.
“When you look at Man Utd’s forward players at the moment, Amad is the best. Everyone else is inconsistent.”
Who else are United looking at this summer?
United are hoping that Cunha is not their only addition to the front line, with the club also very keen to sign a new striker this summer.
Liam Delap is the name at the top of their list, with the 22-year-old having a £30 million release clause in his contract following the confirmation of Ipswich Town’s relegation earlier this month.
Meanwhile, United is also considering signing Olympique Lyonnais forward Rayan Cherki as a possible option on the right flank, with the club reportedly the current frontrunners for his signature.
However, it has also been stated that United are exploring the idea of signing Southampton’s Tyler Dibling this summer if they can secure Champions League football next season.
Parker was speaking to MyBettingSites.
