One of Manchester United’s award-winning Academy stars has got the nod from Rúben Amorim following their latest revision of the summer transfer window.
Manchester United have already sent 11 first-team and Academy players out on loan this summer, with Rúben Amorim keen to give several of his fringe players valuable first-team minutes.
After finishing 15th in the Premier League and falling short in the Europa League final last season, the club see little need to carry a large squad at Old Trafford. With no European football in 2025/26, opportunities for younger players will naturally be limited.
Although many of those leaving are highly regarded within the club, United believe it is best for players like Toby Collyer, Jack Moorhouse, and Radek Vitek to gain senior experience elsewhere in England.
The outgoings are not finished either, with as many as four more Academy prospects expected to head out on loan before the summer window closes.
Fredricson has swayed Amorim this summer
While 11 players have already departed, it has been reported in the media that United are still looking to offload teen stars Harry Amass, Gabriele Biancheri, Ethan Williams, and Ethan Ennis before the window closes. More interestingly, centre-back Tyler Fredricson has not been earmarked for a loan.
Fredricson made his debut for United late last season, putting in a fantastic performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford, and proved himself to be a talented young defender who is ready to be part of a senior football squad.
The 20-year-old went on to win United’s Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year award for 2024/25, marking the end of a fantastic campaign for the young Red.
Amorim was quick to praise Fredricson toward the end of the last season, describing him as a “composed” player who is “good on the ball,” two traits the head coach is known to appreciate in his centre-backs.
With Fredricson earmarked to stay at United this summer, it is clear that Amorim has created space for the youngster to continue developing in his first-team rather than out on loan, showing that the star has a chance to play despite the limited upcoming minutes.
Fredricson could save United a transfer next summer
United have not signed any new centre-backs this summer, with Amorim’s squad pretty stacked in that department despite losing Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelöf back in June.
However, with Harry Maguire’s current contract set to expire in 2026 and Luke Shaw not getting any younger, there has been a thought that United may need to dip into the central defender market next summer to bring in fresh talent.
But, so far, Fredricson has shown himself to be a proficient defender both on the right and left of Amorim’s back three, a trait that Leny Yoro has also shown to be a pivotal one that the head coach will no doubt be keen to develop.
If the Englishman can continue his progress across the next 12 months and earn a bona fide spot in Amorim’s squad, he could become the natural heir to Shaw’s position of challenging Lisandro Martínez and Ayden Heaven on the left, while also providing cover for Noussair Mazraoui and Yoro on the right of the defensive line.
This would make signing a new centre-back much less of a pressing issue at Old Trafford in 2026.
