Manchester United have been warned against the signing of Karim Benzema after some fans have pleaded Erik ten Hag to bring him in as a striker option.

Much has been made surrounding the future of French striker Karim Benzema of late, with the player reportedly unhappy at his current club Al-Ittihad from the Saudi Pro League.

Manchester United have been linked with the player amid the struggle in front of goal for Erik ten Hag’s squad, with it being suggested that Benzema could help mentor Rasmus Højlund.

However, former United defender Paul Parker has called for the club to avoid bringing Benzema to Old Trafford.

“Karim Benzema would be yet another step backward,” Parker told SpilXperten. “He would just be another PR signing, and Manchester United definitely doesn’t need that.

“He would be the completely wrong player to bring in. Completely wrong. There is a reason he left Real Madrid, which is probably primarily about the money, but also because he likely wasn’t guaranteed a starting position.”

However, some United fans believe that Benzema should be an option United should consider, with the 36-year-old’s experience a huge attraction.

“Of course United chose not to sign Benzema,” one fan said. “Same with Kane. They’ll still keep Martial. Failing mentality. They’ll never win anything with Martial. Expect rubbish medioacre football.”

Another said: “The teacher is what the club urgently needs.”
