Manchester United vs Charlton Athletic (EFL Cup): All you need to know
Manchester United booked their ticket to the EFL Cup quarter-final with a 2-0 victory over Burnley on Tuesday evening.
The fixture saw Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford back amongst the goals for Manchester United, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka assisting on what was only his second appearance under Erik ten Hag.
The EFL Cup represents a brilliant opportunity for Ten Hag to end a 5-and-a-half year trophy drought for the Red Devils and grab himself an early piece of silverware as he builds his legacy at the club.
Speaking after the Burnley game, Ten Hag said he was happy with the performance his players game him.
“I am pleased with the performance and the win,” he said. We scored two goals, we had to score many more goals, a clean sheet, although we also created some good chances for them I would say.
“But from this point on we have to step up, we have to do better, we have great ambitions and we have to do better against Forest, that’s clear.”
Who will Manchester United face next?
The draw for the quarter-finals took place after Manchester City defeated Liverpool 3-2 on Wednesday evening, with United and City now the only two ‘big six’ clubs left in the competition.
Manchester United will face Charlton Athletic in the next round of the competition, fighting for a place in the semi-final.
Where will they play?
As Manchester United were drawn from the pot first, they will face Charlton at home, at Old Trafford.
When will they play?
While specific kick-off times are yet to be confirmed, the quarter-finals will take place on the week commencing 9 January, with two fixtures due to be broadcast on Sky Sports.
