Manchester United urged to avoid signing controversial star, Ruben Amorim told “it’s too big of a risk”

Ruben Amorim has been told that the risk of re-signing Paul Pogba at Manchester United is too high by one former player.

Manchester United made just one major signing during the January transfer window, securing Patrick Dorgu for approximately £25 million.

Amid ongoing financial concerns at Old Trafford, many have suggested that exploring the free-agent market could be a smart strategy ahead of the summer window.

Paul Pogba, who recently had his football ban reduced after it was determined that his ingestion of a banned substance was unintentional, is set to return to action soon.

The former Manchester United midfielder has left Juventus and is currently without a club but expected to make a move soon.

Speculation over a possible return to Old Trafford intensified following Pogba’s recent Instagram activity, with multiple reports linking the Frenchman to a sensational third spell at United.

United urges against re-signing Pogba

Pogba was a controversial figure during his time at Old Trafford and fans remain split on the World Cup winner at the moment.

Despite some calls to bring him back to a struggling United side, ex-Red Mikael Silvestre is against the move as it would be too much of a risk.

Pogba has not played competitive football since September 2023 and only made one start for Juventus after departing United in the summer of 2022 due to injury problems.

“No, I wouldn’t be tempted to sign Paul Pogba on a free transfer if I was Manchester United,” Silvestre told yaysweepstakes.com

“I like Paul a lot but I wouldn’t because it’s going to be expensive and you don’t know physically how long it’s going to take him to get up match fitness.

“Even though he’s been out of the game for 18 months, before his ban, he wasn’t really playing that much at Juventus. He’s had a couple of injuries. It’s too big of a risk [to sign Pogba].

“If you were signing him and he was in peak fitness, he had been playing regular football, with a perfect body and mind, then it would be a no brainer.

“But, after what he’s been through as well, it’s extremely difficult for him. I wouldn’t be in favour of Manchester United bringing him back to the club again.”

United need to be smart in transfer window

United have to be smart in the transfer window, especially in terms of price and wages. Pogba would only tick one of those boxes.

But the Reds also need to look at other aspects such as the physical and technical attributes of their targets. Pogba’s recent injury history, matched by the fact he has spent almost two years away from football, makes him a risky addition.

There are several key areas which need strengthening and can’t really afford to make poor signings in the coming windows.

With a small margin for error, there seems to be a lot of pressure building on the hierarchy at Old Trafford to make the correct decisions in the market and help improve Amorim’s underperforming squad.
