Manchester United’s under-21s side won 10-1 against Stoke City’s under-21s in the PL2 on Saturday afternoon with three players scoring braces for the home side.

The Reds were 6-1 up at the break, with the visitor’s goal coming through an own-goal from Willy Kambwala. An extra four goals in the second half got them into double digits.

It was a needed win for the team after losing their opening two league games of the season against Crystal Palace and Leeds United.

However, they also would’ve got some confidence from their penalty shootout win against League Two outfit Stockport County in the EFL Trophy earlier this week.

The Stoke game saw the trio of Isak Hansen-Aaoren, Mateo Mejía, and Ethan Williams score two each. Maxi Oyedele, Joe Hugill, Sam Mather, and Ethan Wheatley made up the rest of the goals for Travis Binnion’s side.

It was Hugill again who scored from the penalty spot. He did so twice during the win against Stockport last week – once in the game and the other in the shootout.

Hansen-Aaoren also impressed throughout and was a bright spark when played during Erik ten Hag’s pre-season, with the United boss highlighting the Norwegian’s dribbling ability as a major strength.

“He did well,” the Red Devils boss told UnitedNo after the pre-season win against Leeds. “He had a good pass on the first goal. You can see that he is very comfortable with the ball. He also had some nice jabs and showed a good overview.

“He is of course a young player. He has some small things to work on. But we want to tell him that, show him, and then work with him to get the right movements in.”

United’s U21s face up against Sunderland next weekend, although will not be expecting a similar scoreline.
