Mikaël Silvestre has voiced his controversial opinion on Manchester United being linked with World Cup star Sofyan Amrabat.

The Moroccan man, who helped his country reach the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, has been touted as a potential addition to United’s midfield department.

Erik ten Hag has worked with the 26-year-old previously when the pair were at Utrecht together and could decide to bring him in to bolster the depth behind Casemiro.

Amrabat could likely play alongside the Brazilian too but would also be the only similar profile to operate as the deepest midfield player for The Reds if he was to sign.

However, according to multiple reports, a potential deal for the Fiorentina midfielder relies on outgoings in United’s engine room, with Fred the most likely to leave. Fulham are one of multiple clubs interested in the 30-year-old.

The ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano has stated that the Italian club want around £30-35 million for Amrabat. A significant portion of that cash could be raised through the sale of Fred.

However, former United defender Mikaël Silvestre has expressed doubts about a deal. Despite admitting that the Moroccan is a good player, he is not excited about the potential signing.

“Unless Scott [McTominay] or Fred leaves this summer, then there’s no room for Sofyan at the moment, but things can change between now and the end of the transfer window,” he told GGRecon. “We just need to wait and see in this particular case. He’s evidently a good player but in all honesty, I’m not overwhelmed with that link.”

Silvestre has also been full of praise for United’s new goalkeeper Andre Onana, who impressed during his unofficial debut for the club despite The Reds losing 2-0 to Real Madrid.

“Whenever I’ve seen André Onana play previously, he’s been very impressive,” he added. “He’s another very good addition for Manchester United and he will help the team to be strong at the back and make Old Trafford even more of a fortress for the team.

“His distribution is a very good asset offensively and due to how calm he is on the ball, he will fill his teammates with confidence.”
