Manchester United have been told that an “incredible” Serie A star who is exactly what Rúben Amorim needs is available for £17m this summer.
Rúben Amorim’s rebuild at Manchester United is up and running, with the club agreeing a £62.5 million deal to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves on the opening day of the transfer window.
On day two, United received a further boost as Bryan Mbeumo made it clear he wants a move to Old Trafford, despite strong interest from Newcastle, Arsenal and Tottenham.
Bruno Fernandes has also made his decision, turning down a lucrative offer from Saudi side Al-Hilal to stay at United and be part of Amorim’s plans.
United are continuing to work on securing transfer targets, with the club keen on a new striker and a new midfielder, and rumours are floating about the possibility of replacing André Onana next season, too.
United’s preference for midfield is still unclear
While United have been very firm in wanting to sign Cunha and Mbeumo in the opening weeks of the window, their ideal midfield targets have been more vague.
There were links to Atalanta’s Brazilian midfielder Ederson, who is valued at £50 million, but that price tag has somewhat deterred United, while the player himself is a target for Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal.
It has also been reported in the media that the club admires Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba. However, with the Cameroon international said to be only available for more than £70 million, this is far too far out of United’s reach.
With Fernandes staying, the club trying to tie Kobbie Mainoo down to a new deal, and Casemiro regaining form, there has been debate among fans as to the profile United should be signing next summer.
Incredible Anguissa available for £17m
Amid the ongoing speculation, former Real Madrid and Cameroon midfielder Geremi has advised that United look at his compatriot, who is currently at Napoli, having previously played for Fulham.
“Frank Anguissa was in the Premier League in the past, but this is a totally new Frank Anguissa,” Geremi explained. “He has improved an incredible amount with Napoli, and I think his contribution was what took them to the title.
“He is doing incredibly well and I think he is exactly the player that Manchester United need, he is box to box and has all the energy and capacity to change their midfield. United need that kind of player, and it would be a very, very good signing.”
With United on a tight budget, Corriere dello Sport are reporting that Napoli are willing to entertain offers of around £17 million for the player this summer.
If Geremi believes the 29-year-old is a player who would improve United’s physical flooring in midfield, it may be wise for Amorim to take a look at signing the recently crowned Serie A Champion.
