Manchester United have been told that one ‘exceptional’ star is looking for a transfer this summer and he could end up being an alternative to Bryan Mbeumo.
With a lot of work to do this summer, Manchester United are trying to complete a deal for Bryan Mbeumo in the coming weeks.
A deal for Matheus Cunha is already over the line but there is a clear need for more offensive reinforcements and Mbeumo is the favoured option.
An opening bid of £55 million was rejected by Brentford and it seems to be taking United a long time to lodge a second offer for the player.
While there is still confidence about an agreement, United do not seem to want to pay over the odds for players this summer and could end up walking away from the deal if they feel that negotiations aren’t heading in the right direction.
There are other players the Reds are keeping an eye on for that position and one of them has communicated that he wants to leave his current club this summer.
United told exceptional Simons wants transfer
Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig has reportedly told his club that he wants to leave despite only signing for them permanently this January.
Simons, described as an ‘exceptional’ talent, had spent two years on loan in Leipzig before a transfer was struck with Paris Saint-Germain for around £43 million.
Now, however, The Athletic are reporting that the attacking midfielder has decided he wants to move on and the German club are open to this as long as they receive an offer of at least £59 million.
United have been linked with Simons this summer and he is an alternative they would likely consider if a deal cannot be agreed for Mbeumo.
It remains to be seen whether the Dutch international would be open to moving to a club without Champions League football next term.
United preparing for all outcomes with Mbeumo
It is clear that an approach for Simons would only happen if this deal for Mbeumo falls through and most fans would prefer the Premier League-proven option is brought in.
But in the past United have been stung by the fact that they do not have backups planned in case their number one targets don’t end up joining.

The Reds have already been rejected by their no.1 striker target and have moved on quickly to alternatives and the same will happen if the Mbeumo deal falls through.
It would not be ideal, but it is good for them to be prepared for all scenarios and Simons would definitely be one to watch in that case.
