One Manchester United starlet has suffered an injury setback following on from Patrick Dorgu’s issue last weekend.
Manchester United are looking to continue their recent form in their upcoming clash against Fulham at Old Trafford this weekend.
Michael Carrick has led the team to wins over Manchester City and Arsenal in his first two fixtures to move the Reds into fourth in the Premier League table.
While there have been plenty of positives from the last two weeks, United have also lost Patrick Dorgu to injury as he was finally entering his best form.
The Danish international has joined Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee on the sidelines, although the latter has returned to training this week.
United starlet suffers four-week injury setback
Following on from the news of Dorgu’s injury, another young defender at United has suffered a setback.
Tyler Fredricson has suffered a calf injury that will keep him out of action for around four weeks, according to Simon Peach.
Fredricson, 20, has made four appearances for United’s first-team since his debut under Ruben Amorim last term. He most recently played came off the bench for the final minutes of the Boxing Day win over Newcastle.
The injury setback for Fredricson might also be more significant for his development, as the youngster was set to move out on his first loan move this month.
Peach explained that several Championship and Belgian Pro League clubs registered an interest in signing the young defender on loan but he is now set to stay at United for the remainder of the season.
Fredricson future will be interesting
The future of young players like Fredricson will be interesting to watch. Many would say that he isn’t quite good enough to contribute for the first-team on a long-term basis.
But we have seen how beneficial it has been for other clubs to sell players like that for £10-15 million to help with their first-team transfer budget.
Fredricson needs to get more experience in the professional game but he could be a player that United look to get a decent fee out of a Championship or lower Premier League side in the summer.
United have always produced many players for the top level of English football but they now need to start finding ways to receive better fees for these talents.
