One Manchester United academy starlet has sent a strong message to coach Ruben Amorim ahead of the new season, after he had an impressive time with the U21s and the U18s last season.
Ruben Amorim needs all the attacking talent he can get ahead of the new season with no striker signings on the horizon just yet, and one player in the academy has sent the Portuguese coach a message ahead of the new campaign.
Chido Obi has performed brilliantly so far since his promotion to the first team, scoring his first two goals against Hong Kong recently, but there may be another forward not too far behind him.
Rasmus Hojlund has been tipped to leave the club in the summer, with Inter Milan lurking, and a new signing in the nine position has yet to be rubberstamped or agreed upon. That leaves space for someone within the club to step up.
With 21 goals last season in all competitions across the Academy, Gabriel Biancheri could be someone who steps up after “beautiful” performances at Carrington last campaign.
Biancheri’s direct first-team message to Amorim
Gabriele Biancheri has sent a message to Ruben Amorim ahead of next season, with the Welsh forward saying he fully believes he can play for Manchester United at a senior level.
Speaking recently to The Athletic, the 18-year-old, who was signed from Cardiff City, had this to say about his aspirations of making it at the club.
“That’s why I play football: to play at the highest level, to play for Man United’s first team,” Biancheri said. “I’ll always push myself to reach the heights I know I can.
Playing for United’s first team is a dream, but I know I can make it happen. I don’t really know the plan for next season.”
He continued: “I just take everything as it comes. If that’s going on loan and learning and getting experience playing men’s football, I’ll take it. If that’s getting a chance with the first team and playing Under-21s and earning my shot, that’s what I’ll do.”
Biancheri has yet to make a first-team appearance, but is highly rated internally at the club at present. With 21 goals last season in all comps, he was one of the highest-scoring players in United’s youth setup.
A loan may be beneficial, but if United come up short in their search for a striker in the market in the coming months, it could mean that Biancheri’s progression is fast-tracked into the first team.
Biancheri has star quality
Biancheri is a top player and definitely has the ability to play for Manchester United in the future if he carries on this trajectory. The only thing the forward may have to add to his game is a hint of physicality to be able to deal with the robust nature of the Premier League.
The 18-year-old has an eye for a goal and a striker’s instinct that United genuinely could have done with last season. The club needs to trust the academy more than they currently do, because players like Biancheri are just waiting to burst into life if given a chance.
Biancheri outperformed even Chido Obi at times in the academy this season, which is a testament to his quality, considering the latter is not a fully fledged member of the first-team setup.
It will be interesting to see the route his career goes down next season, but one thing that’s for sure, no matter what team Biancheri is part of next season, he will make that team better.
