Manchester United starlet included in Ruben Amorim’s squad vs Brentford despite “tough” display last week

Ruben Amorim and his Manchester United squad travelled to London on Friday afternoon ahead of their clash with Brentford on the weekend.

Manchester United open this weekend’s Premier League schedule with a Saturday afternoon visit to Brentford in West London.

Ruben Amorim’s team have picked up two wins, two losses, and a draw from their first five matches, sitting 11th in the table as they look to build momentum.

Their victories came through a late Bruno Fernandes penalty against Burnley and last weekend’s 2-0 success over Chelsea; a contest shaped by Robert Sánchez’s early dismissal, which allowed United to take control.

On the back of that result against Enzo Maresca’s side, the trip to Brentford gives Amorim the opportunity to secure consecutive league wins for the first time, a potential marker of growing consistency.

Before the United squad departed for the capital on Friday afternoon, Amorim addressed the media and confirmed the latest squad news.

While Diogo Dalot has returned to the fold, two other wingbacks – Noussair Mazraoui and Amad – are unavailable for selection.

Amad has suffered a family bereavement and has been offered compassionate leave while Mazraoui has experienced an injury setback after he recently returned to action.

With those absences, Amorim has decided to bring Diego Leon in the squad to face Brentford. It will be the third time Leon has been in a first-team squad since his summer move.

Leon had ‘tough’ U21s cameo last week

Leon joined United in the summer after initially agreeing a deal with the Old Trafford club earlier in the year. The teenager still cannot speak or understand much English but is taking lessons.

It has been a huge change for the Paraguayan youngster, who struggled last week in an Under-21s fixture against Liverpool. He was substituted at half-time during the 2-1 win and his cameo was described as ‘very tough’.

Dalot and Patrick Dorgu are likely to start the game at Brentford and Leon would probably only come on for his official debut if there are any injuries to those two players.

There could also be other youngsters in the squad, with Tyler Fletcher among those to train with the first-team throughout the week.
