Dimitar Berbatov believes that one Manchester United star will be “wasting his time” if he doesn’t take advantage of a huge benefit at Old Trafford.

The Reds have started the season in a solid fashion with a 1-0 win at home against Fulham, and their next Premier League clash will be against Brighton.

One player who is not currently available is Rasmus Højlund, after he suffered an injury in pre-season. The striker is expected to be back towards the end of September.

Højlund, 21, is still expected to have a big season under Erik ten Hag after scoring 16 goals during his debut campaign at the club.

He will compete with Joshua Zirkzee for the place at the top of the team but former striker Dimitar Berbatov believes that the Dane must be doing all he can to learn from new assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Van Nistelrooy rejoined the club this summer to join Ten Hag’s new-look coaching staff. He previously scored 150 goals for the club. He knows exactly where the back of the net is and can help the forward players behind the scenes.

“Especially now that United have Ruud van Nistelrooy in the coaching team, if you don’t take this opportunity to learn from one of the best who used to score goals for fun, you’re wasting your time,” Berbatov said of Højlund to Futbin.com.

“Speak to Ruud, ask questions, visit his home if you have to, be respectful, listen to him, learn, ask questions and try to add that to your game.

“Højlund’s goal ratio must improve. He should be better, and I think he can be better. He can do better, but it comes down to concentration levels.

“Keeping his concentration levels high throughout all the games because he had good goal scoring opportunities and didn’t score them.

“So this is the moment where he has to work even harder, which won’t be easy, but it’ll be beneficial.”

United have upcoming games against Brighton and Liverpool before the first international break of the season. When they return in mid-September, Højlund will be closing in on his return to the team.
