Manchester United star told ‘it’s time to leave’ after ‘confirming to Serie A giants’ he’s open to transfer

One of Rúben Amorim‘s front-line players has been told it’s time for him to leave Manchester United after he reportedly informed a Serie A club he is open to a move this summer.

Manchester United have begun their attacking overhaul with the signing of Matheus Cunha and ongoing negotiations for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, but those moves have already consumed their initial transfer budget.

To continue reinforcing the squad, particularly with a striker and a midfielder, the club now need to raise funds through player sales.

United are actively looking to sell Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony, and are also willing to listen to offers for Rasmus Højlund.

The shake-up forms part of a wider effort to reshape Rúben Amorim’s options at Old Trafford ahead of the new campaign.

Højlund told it’s time to him to move on from United

Højlund’s two seasons at United have been littered with inconsistent performances. Although the striker has 26 goals to his name across his two campaigns and finished 2023/24 as the top scorer that season, he has failed to live up to expectations.

In Europe, his record has been okay, scoring ten goals across the Champions League and Europa League, but in the Premier League, it has been dire – he netted just four goals in 32 appearances last campaign in the competition.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s former assistant at United, Rene Meulensteen, has now explained that he believes the Danish international would be better off moving on from United this summer and finding a new league where he can rebuild his career.

“For Rasmus Højlund, it’s time for him to find another club in another league where he can rediscover himself and feel good about himself,” Meulensteen explained.

“He needs to be somewhere that he is playing well and scoring goals. Man United look keen to sign another striker, and that will give Hojlund less minutes and even less chances to score goals.

“But we need to see how Man Utd start the season, a few signings can make a real difference, but if they start slowly, then the same negativity kicks in, and that is one of the biggest clubs the club has endured in recent years.

“Players are under constant scrutiny, and Højlund has been a victim of that; it has a big impact on them.”

Højlund has already said yes to Serie A transfer

Despite Højlund’s poor form at United, he remains highly regarded in Italy, having previously played for Atalanta before signing for the Old Trafford club.

According to various media reports in Italy, Champions League runners-up Inter Milan have earmarked the 22-year-old as their prime target this summer should they be able to drum up the space and funds to sign him.

Further to this, it has been revealed in Italy that the Danish international has now given Inter the green light to attempt to sign him, despite reports in England stating that he would rather continue to fight for his place at Old Trafford.

Although it is unclear what sort of fee United would deem acceptable in bids for Højlund, the club would need to make at least £43.2 million for his sale to be considered a profit on their profit and sustainability books.
