One Manchester United star has been slammed by a pundit for showing “a lack of ambition” in the summer transfer market.

The Reds sold many players in the summer transfer window, with the likes of Scott McTominay, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Mason Greenwood departing.

It was one of the club’s most successful transfer windows in terms of sales, but several players who the club were open to selling could not be moved on.

Christian Eriksen started only 14 games for United across all competitions last season and is expected to have a similar role this year following the arrival of Manuel Ugarte.

In an interview with Danish outlet Tipsbladet last season, the Danish midfielder expressed his frustration with his limited playing time at Old Trafford, admitting he had been “unhappy” with the situation.

So far, the 32-year-old has featured for just four minutes in United’s first three Premier League matches of the new campaign.

Yet, it has been revealed that the player rejected several offers to leave the club this summer, while other links to clubs like Ajax were not as strong as portrayed in the media.

Denmark legend Thomas Gravesen has criticised Eriksen’s decision to remain at Old Trafford as a fringe player and explained that he must be playing regular football to be picked for the national team.

“That is my big, big question mark. Again, he has gone through a transfer window where he had the opportunity to play football, but where he simply chose to say no,” Gravesen told ViaPlay, as per UnitedInFocus.

“I get so upset because I have such high expectations of him. (He is showing) a lack of ambition.”

“I don’t understand what is going on. It looks like he’s now been told he’s going to get fewer games this year.

“It is, therefore, a mystery to me that he keeps saying, ‘I feel good, and it’s great to be here’. Well, don’t you want to play football?.

“Why do you get selected for the national team when you don’t play football? Now, what is that? I can accept one time, but now he is going to sit a whole season without playing football. You cannot take out a player who does not play football.

“This is really a player that the Danish national team needs. A player that the Danish national team needs in top form, and now he sits with four minutes in his legs against Liverpool.”
