One Manchester United star has made a positive turnaround following a “nightmare” performance January and is set to start the all-important clash against Lyon.
Manchester United could have taken six points from their last two games if they had better finishers – instead they only have one.
Ruben Amorim’s side don’t have time to dwell on those results, however, with a crucial two-legged clash against Lyon coming up.
The Reds have little to play for in the remainder of the Premier League campaign and their only hopes of securing European football relies on them winning the Europa League.
After finishing third in the league phase of the competition, United won 5-2 on aggregate against Real Sociedad in the round-of-16.
French side Lyon will provide a tougher test in the quarter-finals, but Amorim’s side will be backing themselves to progress to the last four.
Yoro set to start vs Lyon amid good form
While things haven’t been clicking up front for United, there have been visible improvements at the back and several defenders have stood out for their performances.
Leny Yoro was superb in the Manchester derby and will be expected to start against Lyon on the left side of the back three.
It doesn’t feel too long ago where Yoro struggled heavily against Southampton, with winger Kamaldeen Sulemana causing him to have a “nightmare” performance.
His ability in one-on-one situations was put into question that night but the 19-year-old has responded in the best possible way with his performances since then.
Yoro’s recovery since “nightmare” display
Yoro has made 13 appearances for United since his difficulties against the Saints and an interesting statistic has emerged showcasing the turnaround.
StatmanDave has noted that the Frenchman has not been dribbled past in any of his last 12 appearances for the club, which has included games against Arsenal and Manchester City.
Perhaps the best example of him showcasing his defensive ability during that period came against Nottingham Forest, where his excellent sliding tackle stopped Anthony Elanga from taking him on.
Yoro has been able to show that extreme promise out of possession, but the youngster has also displayed some impressive attributes on the ball.
With the ability to drive forward with the ball, the defender is becoming an important player for Amorim’s side and will hope to have another solid game against Lyon.
