One Manchester United star has received an unexpected boost following on from Fabrizio Romano’s comments on his future.
Manchester United have been attempting to fix their attacking struggles this summer after an underwhelming campaign last term.
The Reds were unable to find the back of the net on a consistent basis last season, with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee unable to shoulder the burden.
Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have both been signed to address this issue. They scored 35 goals between them in the Premier League last season.
But there remain question marks over some of the players who failed to perform for the club under Ruben Amorim over the last eight months.
Højlund receives unexpected boost
Højlund’s future at Old Trafford seems to be uncertain, with the club open to selling him if the right offer comes in. This would probably be more likely if a new striker is signed.
But the latest reports from ESPN have suggested that Amorim is expecting to start the season without signing a no.9 despite there being a clear preference to bring one in.
While this will be frustrating for the club and supporters, Højlund would be one of the few people this could benefit as it makes his exit less likely.
Zirkzee is his main competition for the role and the Dutchman has also looked to prefer the deeper role in United’s attack. Cunha and Mbeumo can both play upfront too.
Yet without a natural striker coming in, Højlund could get the chance of redemption at Old Trafford after struggling over the last two years.
Romano makes Højlund ‘dream’ claim
Despite there being some interest in him from clubs in Italy, Højlund wants to stay at United and that has been backed up by Fabrizio Romano’s latest comments.
The transfer expert has explained that the Dane ‘really loves’ United and wants to ‘live his dream of being a Manchester United player, and fight for his place’.
It was added that Højlund would start to consider his options if the club told him that they want him to leave, but that has not happened yet.
And following the news that United might not even sign a new striker, it seems increasingly unlikely that United will tell Højlund to depart the club.
