Sir Jim Ratcliffe brutally suggested that several Manchester United stars are “overpaid” and not good enough in an interview released this week.

Manchester United have been going through a really difficult season so far on and off the field of play.

Ruben Amorim’s men are currently in the bottom half of the Premier League and have been knocked out of both domestic cups.

That leaves the Reds with huge pressure to win the Europa League this season, with the competition being the club’s only hopes of winning silverware and securing European football next year.

However, things are not much better off the pitch, with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe being slammed for many of the unpopular decisions the club are making.

The British billionaire decided to speak to various media outlets at the beginning of this week to address his first year in charge at Old Trafford, where he ended up apologising for mistakes made with Dan Ashworth and Erik ten Hag alongside a host of other topics.

Ratcliffe slams overpaid United players

One of the most eye-catching comments from Ratcliffe’s interviews was his brutal assessment of several United players.

The United co-owner firstly claimed that his team are having to pay for players they they “inherited” – namedropping Casemiro, André Onana, Rasmus Højlund, Antony and Jadon Sancho.

Then when asked whether those players were not good enough for the club, the 72-year-old did not pull any punches.

“Some are not good enough and some probably are overpaid,” he admitted. “But for us to mould the squad that we are fully responsible for, and accountable for, will take time.”

Casemiro left shocked by Ratcliffe criticism

Ratcliffe’s statement has certainly rubbed Casemiro the wrong way, with the Brazilian midfielder said to be left “shocked” by the criticism of United’s co-owner.

The 33-year-old midfielder has taken offence to the comments and transfer expert Graeme Bailey claims this could complicate a potental summer exit for the player.

“United still working hard with the [Saudi] Pro League to try and get him out, they are in constant contact with them,” Bailey told UnitedInFocus.

“They realise they are only place that can get him out and take his wages – if not they are looking at possible loans, which they are keen to avoid.

“We can also confirm that Casemiro is one of the players that have been left ‘shocked’ by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s comments and has taken offence.

“This could complicate things. United would like the Brazilian to take a wage cut ahead of a possible move away but that looks unlikely now.”
