One Manchester United star is trying to convince his fellow countryman to make the move to Old Trafford next summer.
Manchester United have endured a sluggish start to the Premier League campaign and currently find themselves sitting 10th after seven matches.
Rúben Amorim’s side would have hoped for a stronger showing so far, but several of their performances have fallen short of expectations.
During the summer transfer window, the Reds strengthened their attacking options with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Šeško, and Bryan Mbeumo, while also bringing in Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
However, once again, the midfield went unaddressed; an oversight that’s proving costly. That area has become Amorim’s biggest concern, with Bruno Fernandes also struggling to make an impact in a deeper role.
Mbeumo ‘quietly trying to convince’ Baleba of United move
United did try to bring in their number one midfield target late in the window with a move for Brighton’s Carlos Baleba but they were unable to convince the Seagulls to enter negotiations.
It has been heavily reported that the Reds will revisit that potential deal next summer and there is one player doing work behind the scenes.
According to a report from The Sun, Bryan Mbeumo is ‘quietly trying to convince’ Baleba to join him at Old Trafford for next season.
Mbeumo and Baleba have been playing together for Cameroon on international duty and the United forward is said to be like a ‘big brother’ to the Brighton starlet.
The pair have become close and will be spending more time together at the Africa Cup of Nations in two months time. Baleba was said to be keen on a transfer to United in the summer but did not want to push for a move away from the Amex Stadium.
Hurzeler provides Baleba latest
Baleba’s start to the season has been underwhelming and he has been replaced at half-time in three of Brighton’s seven Premier League games.
Fabian Hurzeler has ruled out a January move and hopes that the midfielder can return to his best form soon, although he hinted that a summer move could be possible.
“I think it is getting to the time now where it is up to him. Where he has to take responsibility as well,” the Brighton boss told reporters this week when asked about Baleba’s form.
“He is a Brighton player and will be until the end of the season. It’s up to the player that he steps up, that he takes ownership.
“That is what I demand of him.”
