Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund has won the approval of Denmark manager Brian Riemer following his match-winning goal against Portugal on Wednesday.

Scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win for Denmark, Højlund would make amends after fellow Manchester United star Christian Eriksen saw his early first-half penalty saved by Portugal keeper Diogo Costa.

Coming off the bench with Andreas Skov Olsen in the 69th minute, Højlund would make a near-instant impact, slotting home a well-worked Denmark team goal.

Højlund’s goal saw him link up with his fellow substitute, in a move that was heavily praised by Riemer.

Riemer “extra happy” with Højlund’s goal

Discussing Højlund’s strike with reporters following Wednesday night’s game, said the following regarding the match-winner:

“It was completely rehearsed and practised. It was played almost to perfection. It makes a coach extra happy to succeed with something you work on on the training field.”

Riemer stated as quoted by Tipsbladet.

Højlund’s form key ahead of huge upcoming fixtures

With Højlund and his Denmark teammates set to face Portugal on Sunday in the reverse fixture of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals, these games mark just the first two in a series of huge games for Højlund.

Following the end of this international break, Højlund when reunited with United will face Nottingham Forest away in their first game back.

Following this, United will face rivals City in the Manchester Derby on the 6th of next month, before three huge games including both legs of the Europa League quarter-finals against Lyon.

In between those two games against the French side, United will also face the new Carabao Cup winners Newcastle.

With this in mind, Manchester United head coach Rúben Amorim will hope that Højlund can continue his recent improved form for the foreseeable future.
