Manchester United are set to face Fulham in the FA Cup this weekend and one player could finally return to the team.

Manchester United have very little left to play for in the Premier League this season, as they currently sit 14th in the table and are a long way away from European qualification.

Ruben Amorim and his side have to put all of their eggs into the remaining cup competitions.

They were knocked out of the Carabao Cup but remain in the last-16 of the FA Cup and Europa League – two trophies they will be desperate to win in order to put a positive spin on the season.

United have reached the FA Cup final in the last two years, winning the latest Wembley final against Manchester City, and are looking to make it three in a row for only the second time in their history.

Fulham travel to Old Trafford for this upcoming game and will feel confident as they have lost just once on the road since early December.

While Amorim will certainly be taking the competition seriously, the United boss may also make some changes to his team after they faced Ipswich Town with 10 men on Wednesday night.

Lindelöf could finally start for United after “tough” setback

United’s defensive line-up worked tirelessly to get three points against Ipswich earlier this week and there could be changes in that back three as a result of that.

Harry Maguire has played the full 90 minutes in all of United’s last five games, while Matthijs de Ligt has played the full game in the last three matches.

Leny Yoro performed excellently last time out and will likely continue in the side as he only recently returned from illness.

But one of Maguire or De Ligt may get some rest heading into this game, which could give Victor Lindelöf the chance to start.

The Swedish defender came off the bench in the last minute against The Tractor Boys to make his first appearance since getting injured against Spurs in the Carabao Cup.

That was Lindelöf’s first start under Amorim but he was forced off just before half-time, with Amorim describing it as a “tough” setback for the player.

Lindelöf will now be hoping to finally get the opportunity to start for the new head coach, most likely on the right side of the back three.

Lindelöf wants to end United spell on a high

United are set to allow Lindelöf to depart the club in the summer, with his contract expiring and no plans to negotiate an extension.

The defender joined United in the summer of 2017 and has since made 269 appearances for the club.

While his exit in the summer is needed, Lindelöf could still contribute before the end of the season and will be hoping to end his United career on a high.

One way to do that would be to help Amorim’s men progress in the cup competitions and then see what happens as we enter the business end of the season.
