Rasmus Højlund has reportedly made his thoughts on a move to AC Milan very clear as Manchester United continue negotiations surrounding a loan.
Rasmus Højlund’s position at Manchester United is increasingly under threat after the club confirmed the signing of Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig.
Højlund has struggled to prove himself as a reliable scorer at Old Trafford, managing 26 goals across 95 appearances under Erik ten Hag, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Rúben Amorim.
Though he has shown flashes of quality, his inconsistency and repeated goal droughts have pushed Amorim to turn to a striker of similar age but with greater top-level experience.
United spent £72 million to bring Højlund in back in 2023, but with his performances failing to match that investment, the club are now planning to move him on this summer.
Højlund issues very strong loan demands
In the last week, it has become very clear that AC Milan have the Danish international as their top choice for the striker deal this summer.
It has been widely reported that the two sides are negotiating a loan deal of around £5 million plus salary coverage, with Milan having the option to sign Højlund for £39 million next summer.
However, Sunday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, via SempreMilan, has reported that the 22-year-old has made it abundantly clear that, if he is to leave Old Trafford this summer, he wants it to be permanently.
Højlund has reportedly informed Milan that if he is to join them, it has to be a ‘one-way ticket’ to Italy, as he does not want uncertainty surrounding his future next summer.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the coming week will be crucial in determining the outcome of Højlund’s future, but also states that Højlund would still be agreeable to the move being a loan, as long as he is given assurances that the deal will almost certainly become permanent.
Italian sides coming to United’s rescue
With United’s current transfer outlay above £200 million this summer, the club must recoup a lot of funding from sales in the final two weeks of the window, and Italian clubs may be handing United around £70 million.
Aside from the £40-45 million United may be gaining from Højlund’s sale, AS Roma are also in talks to sign Jadon Sancho.
An offer of around £20 million either as a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy has been discussed, with the Italian club confident they can agree personal terms with the winger.
At the same time, Roma have also enquired about signing left-back Tyrell Malacia, who is likely on the market for around £5-10 million.
