One of Rúben Amorim’s stars could escape the threat of a one-game ban as Manchester United welcome Wolves to Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.
Manchester United bring 2025 to a close by hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford in their final match of the year.
Rúben Amorim’s campaign has been far from straightforward, yet a narrow 1-0 Premier League win over Newcastle, secured with a clean sheet, has provided renewed belief that progress is being made.
The Reds have already got the better of Wolves this season, claiming a convincing 4-1 victory at Molineux earlier in the month. However, United will be without a number of players this time around due to injury and Africa Cup of Nations absences.
With the turn of the year fast approaching, Amorim will be keen for his side to produce a composed performance and take maximum points as they look to keep their Champions League ambitions on track.
Premier League confirm United vs Wolves referee
Thomas Bramall (pictured above) will be the referee on Tuesday evening in Manchester. Bramall has officiated 10 Premier League fixtures this season and a further four in the domestic cup competitions.
Bramall has not officiated United this campaign, but did so on two occasions last season – a 3-0 win away against Leicester City, and the 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on the final day of the season.
This season, Bramall has issued 33 yellow cards in the Premier League and 46 across all competitions. He has issued three red cards this season, two of which came via two yellow cards. He’s also awarded three penalties, all of which have come in the Premier League.
During the game, Constantine Hatzidakis and Mat Wilkes will serve as Bramall’s assistant referees. Josh Smith will be the fourth official on Tuesday evening, separating Amorim and Rob Edwards.
John Brooks has been appointed as the Video Assistant Referee. Richard West will act as assistant VAR.
Dorgu could escape Premier League ban vs Wolves
United have only seen Casemiro serve any form of ban this season, with the Brazilian first serving a one-game ban for his red card against Chelsea, then another for tallying five yellow cards before the 2025/26 halfway point.
The tie against Wolves is United’s 19th league game of the season, and under Premier League rules, a one-match ban for five yellow cards applies only if the five yellow cards are handed out before the end of the 19th fixture of the season.
For United, the only player at risk of still incurring a one-game ban is Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, who has four yellow cards for the season.
If the Dane can avoid being handed a yellow card against Wolves, he will be able to escape the risk of being given a one-game ban against Leeds United in the new year. He would not need to worry about a yellow-card-induced ban unless he hits ten for the remainder of the campaign.
