Manchester United set to promote two exciting youngsters to first-team in 2026/27 after shining on loan

Manchester United could be working on promoting two young talents from the academy to the first team after lighting up the Championship and impressing Ruben Amorim.

The two players are left back Harry Amass, who is currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, and goalkeeper Radek Vitek, who is at Bristol City.

Both players have some decent experience in first-team football. Harry Amass featured seven times last season for Manchester United, including the infamous win against Lyon in the Europa League.

Despite not making his first-team debut for his parent club, Vitek has had a season at Accrington Stanley and a season in Austria’s top division for BW Linz under his belt.

The goalkeeper was also awarded some praise from the United fans for his performance against Norwegian side Rosenborg while on a pre-season tour with the club.

Amass and Vitek’s form so far this season

According to Samuel Luckhurst of The Sun, United are looking to ‘shore up the goalkeeping department’ with the club being likely to ‘cash in on error-prone No.2 Altay Bayindir next year’.

Furthermore, the current third-choice goalkeeper, Tom Heaton, is on the verge of reaching 40 years of age, so his departure or retirement could be imminent.

Vitek’s Bristol City currently sit in 8th place in the league, just two points off the play-off spots. The 22-year-old has helped achieve this position, keeping six clean sheets so far this season, and only conceding 18 goals in 15 games.

On the other hand, Amass has had to face a much bigger challenge in Sheffield, as his side currently resides bottom of the league on minus four points, due to a 12-point deduction at the start of the season. With the club in a mess off the pitch, performance on it has been needed now more than ever.

Despite the torrid circumstances the loanee has found himself in, he has still managed to shine, earning the man of the match award against Portsmouth, and scoring his first senior goal against Southampton.

Where do they fit in at United?

Both players have great chances to slot into Ruben Amorim’s plans. The left wing back position for United is still up for grabs as Patrick Dorgu has, despite his performances as of late improving, failed to nail down the spot and has often been replaced by an out-of-position Diogo Dalot.

Diego Leon does not seem to be an issue for Amass either, as the young Paraguayan fullback is yet to make his senior debut for the club and has spent most of his time in the academy. Clearly, he is not ready for the step up as of yet.

With the way United play, the left-sided player usually has a lot of space to work with in attack; therefore, Dorgu only managing one assist and no goals during his time so far at the club leaves the door open for Amass to steal the spot from the Dane.

As for Vitek, his chances of becoming the first-choice goalkeeper for the club are very slim due to Senne Lammens‘ brilliant performances so far, which have won the hearts and trust of the fans.

However, he does have a great chance at becoming the second choice. With Andre Onana looking to make his move away permanent, and Altay Bayindir losing the faith of the fans after multiple subpar performances, if Vitek can transfer his form from the Championship to the Premier League, then he has a great chance.
