Manchester United set to copy Matheus Cunha trick for Bryan Mbeumo after bizarre transfer window change

Manchester United have started the transfer window strongly but will not be able to sign any more players for around a week.

Matheus Cunha was announced as Manchester United’s first summer signing on the opening day of the transfer window and the Reds have been working on other deals since then.

The most significant developments have come in the chase to sign Bryan Mbeumo, who made negotiations much easier for United after communicating his desire to join them over Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle.

United submitted an opening bid reaching £55 million for the Premier League forward but Brentford swiftly rejected that. Reports have explained that the second offer will be over the £60 million mark.

However, the deal will not be able to be completed in the coming days even if that is accepted due to the fact that the transfer window has now bizarrely closed until the 16 June.

FIFA had allowed clubs participating in the Club World Cup to have this period of time to sign players ahead of the tournament but it was later allowed for all clubs to ensure fairness for those not competing in the competition.

United set to copy Cunha trick for Mbeumo

While the window is now shut for just under a week, that does not stop United from progressing the deal for Mbeumo to join the club.

That is exactly what they did for the Cunha deal – conversations with both Wolves and the player took place ahead of the window opening so it could be completed as soon as possible when the window opened.

Of course, the release clause in Cunha’s deal made things a lot easier but so has Mbeumo’s admission that he wants to join United over any other suitors.

United have already been preparing their second offer for the 25-year-old and will be close on agreeing personal terms too. This six-day break could allow them to prepare a second opening-day signing this summer.

They do not have to rush this second bid, and can make sure that an agreement is found over these coming days, rather than seeing another offer rejected.

United still have a lot of time to secure transfers

This transfer window opening earlier has made a lot of people seem to think that the season in approaching. In reality, United still have a lot of time to make deals happen.

There is still around three entire weeks until the squad would return to training at Carrington, and then they will not be travelling to the United States until midway through the month.

Signing players this early is obviously a positive, but United need to balance working quickly with ensuring they are getting good deals.

If there are at least three major signings in the building for the trip to the United States, many fans will be pleased with the club’s proactivity in the window. With another one or two additions afterwards being ideal.

Despite being closed right now, the transfer window is far from over and United are going to be busy.
